Jamey Gets His First Bow Harvest!

Jamey was able to take this nice doe with his bow from his stand from about 15 yards. He did an awesome job as this doe and another doe walked almost right under the stand.
He made a very good shot on this deer in some difficult conditions. It was almost to dark to shoot but he made it count. We found some "good" blood at the point of impact but we could not find a good blood trail. We had to wait until the next day to find the deer. We were encouraged by watching the video that he made a good shot and we should be able to find the deer...PTL we did.

Good job Jamey!

Opening Day Bow Season Ohio...

Well to be honest the opening day of Ohio's archery season didn't start out the way in which we had planned. We arrived safely to our Union County hunting land to see 9 deer the night before as we set up camp. We had several severe thunder storms (I thought we were back in Alabama with a hurricane!) and sleeping (not really sleeping) through the high winds caused us to get in the woods late.

Once we did get in the woods I was the only one who saw deer. I saw two far off in the woods and I had a little yearling come in at about 60 yards. I did have a score-able 8 pointer come within about 80 yards of a stand I sat in during the afternoon hunt but he didn't come any closer.

Sunday afternoon Jamey joined us and we had the Converse Boys back together again for a hunt. It wasn't the same since Jamey wasn't with us on opening day as he had a football game (in which they won 28-14 to go 5-1 on to he year!)

So now we set our sites on the upcoming weeks to be able to fill our deer tags as well as our memories with some exciting things that will take place during the 2006-2007 Deer Season!

The Stands are Set and there is good Buck Sign for Opening Weekend for Bow Season!

Today I set some stands out at the Union County, Ohio
property and there is some really good buck sign. This rub
was only about 30 yardss away from one of the stands. The
cool thing about this rub is that it is about four feet in the air on this tree. There is a good buck in the area.
The Converse guys are pumped about opening weekend. We will have to hunt in shifts. Jamey has a football game on opening morning so he will not get to hunt. We (Josh, Jamey and Bryan) will hunt opening afternoon but Bryan will come home Saturday night to prepare for Sunday morning service. He will return back to the hunting land for a Sunday PM hunt and to pick up the boys.

We are also excited about founding the Fellowship of Christian Hunters - Warren County. We have circulated flyers and brochures in the area for the October 12 meeting. We have heard back from some guys about becoming members and attending the opening meeting!

Fellowship of Christian Hunters - Warren County Begins!

The dream of getting together with other hunters and sharing the passion of hunting is unfolding in a new way for us. The association with a tremendous organization, the Fellowship of Christian Hunters is beginning. The Fellowship of Christian Hunters - Warren County will be born with it's first meeting on October 12, 2006 at the Foster's Point Clubhouse.

This club will be a great opportunity to meet fellow hunters and spend time together sharing in our love for the great outdoors. It also brings with it the opportunities for fellow believers in Jesus Christ to get together.

I am very excited about this outreach opportunity to be able share Christ with people and to be able to learn more about hunting.

New Deer Hunting Land Scouting Trip Successful!

Josh and I traveled to Union County Ohio to a farm we are going to be able to Whitetail Deer hunt this year to scout and learn the land. We are a part of the American Sportsmen's Club and this is some property that is a part of this club.

I want to personally encourage anyone who is looking for a quality-family hunting organization to consider the American Sportsmen's Club. Here is the website: www.team-asc.com. It is a first class organization that is run by fellow Christian believers (although the club is not distinctly set up to be Christian), and it is run by family principles.

We saw plenty of sign and we were very encouraged. We will hunt the archery and firearm season for deer on this property. We will be able to camp on the property so the legacy of the "CONVERSE DEER CAMP" experience will continue!

The Converse "Deer Camp" Tradition...

For the Converse “men” the yearly DEER CAMP TRADITION is a priceless one. It started when Josh, who is now 19, was just 4 when he went with me deer hunting in Georgia. Over the years it has "infected" my father, Howard and we are now having my second oldest son Jamey catch the passion. We have been able to hunt together as a family in Alabama, Georgia, Michigan and this year we will hunt in Ohio.We camp together (even at Motel 6!). We scout and put up blinds and stands. We will watch the traditional Converse Deer Camp movie “Escanaba in da moonlight” on the eve of opening day gun season! This is a priceless time. Here are a couple of pics of Jamey with his first deer and Josh as he returns from the morning hunt. Now we wait as soon it will be September 30…opening day for bow. We will however, be counting the days until November 27 as that day is like “Christmas with guns!”…Ohio Fire-arm Deer Season Opening day!
